YOUNG people from across Halton and Frodsham helped to raise more than £1,400 after they braving the icy weather to take part in a sponsored walk. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts joined their leaders in the hike which saw them venture from Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham to the Queen Charlotte’s Wood camp site in Alvanley.
Participants raised a grand total of £1,440 fo Alder Hey Hospital’s Christmas appeal.
The walk was just one of the events organised the mark the centenary of Scouting in the North West. The district has originally covered Runcorn, Moore, Frodsham and Helsby before merging with Widnes district to form a new Mersey Weaver district. A picnic and games at the campsite followed the hike and each participant was presented with a medallion for their efforts.
The final amount raised was announced at the annual district carol service. April Nicholas, who helped to organise the walk, said: “We are delighted with how much was raised for the hospital.
“Everyone who took part had a great day and this is a marvellous way to end our centenary celebrations.”
