The nominations for the 2012 Scout Birthday Badges have been released.
On 1 August every year we celebrate Scouting’s birthday by awarding an Honorary Scout Activity Badge for a particular accomplishment and/or achievement. The accolades will be presented to public figures who have achieved something special across a range of activities.

The shortlist

The shortlist of nominees has been drawn from members’ recommendations and features an eclectic and diverse list of names. Included in the list is funny man, John Bishop, nominated for the Sports Enthusiast Badge, and TV presenter and culinary queen, Mary Berry, who is nominated for the Chef Badge.
Other nominees include Miranda Hart (Outdoor Adventure Badge), Michael McIntyre (Entertainer Badge) and Professor Brian Cox (Astronomer Badge).

And the winner is…

Previous winners of Scout Birthday Badges include naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, global adventurer Dame Ellen MacArthur and super smart entertainer, Stephen Fry.
‘We’ve had some fantastic suggestions this year for nominees to receive a Birthday Badge Award,’ said Beth Gooch, Ambassador and VIP Liaison Manager for The Scout Association. ‘I’d encourage everyone to check out the list and vote for the person you think is most deserving. Remember to keep an eye out on 1 August when we announce the winners.’
