At a time when everything in the world can feel like it is standing still, Mersey Weaver are extremely proud to be launching a fifth Explorer unit to keep up with demand in the 14-18 age group. Explorers offers young people opportunities to socialise with peers, develop, grow and practice skills that will give them an edge in adult life.
The name of the unit is to be decided by the young people themselves, but is launching under the codename ‘Decangi’ – a Celtic tribe that resided in North Wales and West Cheshire prior to the Roman invasion of Britain.
Decangi will join our four existing units who meet on the following nights and locations:
Unit | Day | Location |
---|---|---|
Aquila | Thursday | Widnes |
Beacon | Tuesday | Frodsham |
Cestrian | Monday | Runcorn |
Decangi | Wednesday | Alvanley |
Young Leader | Flexible | Flexible |
Meeting on a Wednesday evening will give young people in Mersey Weaver more choice and options to participate in the Explorer programme.
During the suspension of Scouting, the unit will begin as a virtual unit bringing together Scouts to do all manner of exciting activities online such as working as team to break out of a virtual escape room, learning bushcraft, learning how to navigate, have an impact on their community, life skills such as cooking and completing work towards their Duke of Edinburgh and coveted Queen Scout Awards.
Once face to face Scouting resumes, the unit will meet in Alvanley at our Queen Charlotte’s Wood Activity Centre; making the most of all the outdoor space there with opportunities to even get involved with some of the projects in site that we know this age range are particularly passionate about.
