Scouts/Explorers Caving Trip – 7th May
May 7 @ 5:55 pm - 10:30 pm
We will be taking a group of Scouts and Explorers on a very exciting and adventurous trip to wood mine in Alderley Edge where the Young People will get to try some high level traverses, ladder scaling as well as the option of some challenging crawls and squeezes. N.B. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the squeezes there are always alternative routes. This is a fantastic winter activity as it is surprisingly warm underground!
Please note this trip will take place on a Tuesday evening as this is the only evening on which the instructors operate.
Transport
We will be offering transport to and from Alderley Edge in the District minibuses. Please meet at the District Scout Centre, Moor Lane, Frodsham WA6 7DD at 18:00 for a prompt departure. We hope to be home by 22:30.
What to wear
Old clothes which can get dirty (no jeans). Sturdy footwear – hiking boots/shoes, wellington boots are best. Be prepared to get wet and sandy as we will attempt a few crawls (but only if you want to). You may wish to bring a change of clothing – we also recommend a bin bag to sit on for your journey home.
The mines are a comfortable temperature all year round. However the car park and walk to the mines can be cold, especially in winter, so consider bringing a coat – it can be left in a safe location just inside the mines entrance. If you are not appropriately dressed you may not be able to attend the trip.
Snacks and drinks
We are only underground for 2 hours so no need for refreshments, however you are welcome to bring some if you want to for the journey.
Equipment
We provide a suitable helmet with a lamp, a safety belt and means of staying safe on ladders etc. No need for you to bring your own torch.
