Scout Pride

Why does The Scout Association attend Pride?
Attending Pride events is a way of demonstrating our commitment to equality and building a more inclusive society, and showing that we openly welcome LGBT members. We have been attending Pride in London for a number of years, and our volunteer unit (FLAGS), who support attendance at other Pride events across the county.

What do you do at Pride in London?
In 2015, our seventh year attending Pride in London, a group of over 125 volunteers and Explorer Scouts represented Scouts in the head of the parade. We had a Scout-branded National Express coach and dressed in eye-catching Scout Pride hero costumes and tent costumes. We were proud to be joined by all of our UK Youth Commissioner team, many of the UK Chief Commissioner team and two of our Regional Commissioners.
Members attended a morning meet up, to network, enjoy activities, and find out about support for inclusion in Scouting, including FLAGS and our national team of Specialist Advisers. Our Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, sent a message of support.

We also have a short video which was shown to the crowds in Trafalgar Square in 2013 and 2014, with the message that Scouting is inclusive.
How can I attend a Pride event with Scouting?
Whatever your sexual orientation or gender identity, if you’re a Member of Scouting wanting to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion, apply for a place at the London Pride 2017 here. Young people over 16 are welcome to attend to!
