MORE than 130 tipplers in Widnes attended the first real ale festival to be hosted by scouts in the town.
Scouts from the 4th Widnes St Bede’s put on six traditional cask-conditioned ales from breweries within a six-mile radius of the scout headquarters in Appleton Village.
The event raised more than £1,400 which will fund a group camp to help the scouts celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June.
Entertainment was provided by Graham Rath who accompanied himself on acoustic guitar singing folksy, country and middle-of-the-road music.
Event organiser Vikki Mannion said: “The event was a tremendous success and at one point we were almost overwhelmed by the number of people coming through the door. I think this will be the first of many events of this kind in the future.”
“We would like to acknowledge the help of the local CAMRA group for their invaluable help and advice in organising the event.”
