It was a historic moment on Saturday 11 June as the very first Squirrels in Mersey Weaver were presented at 1st Helsby’s Group camp the highest award in Squirrels, The Chief Scout Acorn Award!

The Squirrels were invited to spend the day with the rest of the group on activities and it was great to see the older sections looking after and helping the younger ones. Well done to Squirrel’s and their leaders who’ve made this happen, we can’t wait to see more of these awards presented in the future!

To Achieve the Award, The Squirrels had to achieve four challenge badges that encouraged them to explore the world around them, work as a team, develop themselves, have an adventure and push their comfort zone.

These challenges included:

Plus two activity badges of the Squirrel’s choice.

Oliver Chambers (District Commissioner) who was invited to present the awards said the following, “We are so proud of the team at 1st Helsby and what they have achieved since opening the Drey back in October, they have really proved the impact this new section can have on 4 and 5 year olds; giving them the very best start in life . It was incredible seeing the smiles on the young people’s faces as they were presented with their certificates and badges that they had worked really hard to achieve. My thanks goes to all the volunteer Squirrel leaders and team who have supported them with them these life changing awards wouldn’t have bee possible. We can’t wait to expand our Squirrel provision to more young people across the Mersey Weaver and have a growing joining list, so if you believe in giving young people the best start in life please get in touch about volunteering.”
