Scout Hillwalking Experience

12th November 2017 @ 7:30 am - 5:30 pm

Free

The Mersey Weaver Hillwalking & Trekking ASU are delighted to announce that we will be running a number of Hillwalking experiences for Scouts from any group in the months of November, March, April, May, June, and July/August. This will be an exciting opportunity for Scouts who may not have experienced summiting a mountain before as well as a chance to practice advanced navigation skills and work towards a number of badges. These will follow on from the successful hillwalking experiences run for the Nord participants which were hugely popular and enabled many Scouts from groups without permit holders experience wild and rugged terrain for the very first time.

Scouts who attend at least five of these trips will be awarded the Hillwalker badge! We are also hoping to offer two opportunities in the summer months for Scouts to wild camp in the hills and complete the Expedition Challenge and Hikes Away badges..
Taking part in any of the experiences can also count as one of the four activities for the Adventure Challenge. During the experiences for those who are interested, we will cover the more difficult elements of both stage 4 and 5 of the Navigator badges.

The first of these experiences will be on Sunday 12th November for a special walk of remembrance. We will be paying our respects and laying a wreath at a remote crash site of a World War Two plane and war grave. We will be remembering those who gave their lives for their country closer to home. There are two possible walks one in North Wales and the other in Dark Peak due to the remoteness of both sites the decision which route we will take will be decided on the day based on weather conditions. The walk will be approx 14km and the highest point we will potentially go is 800m.

Dates for the experiences in 2018 will follow. The number of places on the experiences will be limited and dependent on the number of permit holders. Places will be offered on a first come first serve basis.

Transport will be provided from the District Scout Centre in Frodsham by Minibus. There will be a charge of £10 to cover the cost of transport, fuel, maps, parking etc. Scouts will need dropping off at 07:30 and we will aim to be back for 17:30.
