The Queens Award for Voluntary Service - Press ReleaseYou will be aware that I have asked John Duley to take on a County role as ACC Development. As a result of John’s decision to accept this post a process has been underway over the last few months to find a replacement. The role of the District Commissioner is a key appointment in the management and delivery of Scouting in the County. It is therefore essential that the right person, with the support of their District and the necessary skills be appointed.
John Duley has made a very significant contribution to the development of Scouting in Mersey Weaver during his tenure as District Commissioner and I want to put on record my thanks for everything he has done. He has guided the merger process of the two old Districts and provided a framework onto which further expansion of Scouting in the District can be added.
I am delighted to announce that Owen Campbell, currently GSL at 1st Helsby, has accepted my invitation to become District Commissioner for Mersey Weaver on the occasion of the your District AGM in May.
There will now be a period of transition leading to a formal handover at the District AGM. To be clear John Duley remains as DC for Mersey Weaver and any matters requiring the attention of the DC should be sent to John until the formal handover in May.
Can I also deal with the “urban myth” that all ADC’s and District Appointees need to resign in the hope of being re-appointed. This is completely untrue. The District Team will remain in place and I hope continue to support the District through this transition period and beyond. Once in post Owen will arrange “one to one” interviews with members of the District Team to discuss his strategy for the future.
