The Mersey Weaver roll of honour for this year’s Celebrating Success event just went on and on!
In 2025, we have no fewer than 24 Gold Awards! 5 Platinum, 2 diamond, 5 young leader belt, 2 BTECs, 1 Explorer YouShape awards, 2 young leader belt, 4 BTECs! and 2 King Scout Awards.
These awards represent huge levels of commitment and demonstrate the hard work that young people in the district put in all year round to earn them.
Not everyone could attend the event at the Parr Hall in Warrington due to clashes with other activities, but those who were there collected their awards from the Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, and President of Cheshire Scouts, Lady Alexis Redmond MBE.
Well done to everyone who earned an award this year.

We used the occasion to posthumously award John Lamb, with his Young Leader Belt.
John’s Scouting journey was defined by courage, humour, kindness, and a love of adventure. He began as a Beaver at 8th Widnes, became a Scout, then an Explorer at Beacon Explorers. As a Young Leader – affectionately known as Chil – he gave his time and energy to helping younger members at 12th Widnes thrive.
Whether supporting his Beaver colony, sharing ideas at Youth Forums, or chatting with leaders about climbing or the mysteries of the universe, John always made a lasting impression.
Even as his illness progressed, John stayed involved, determined to enjoy life and make the most of every opportunity. Just before he passed, I’m really proud of Ruth and Caroline his leaders were able to present him with his Young Leader Belt – a moment that recognised his incredible contribution.
John’s legacy lives on in the district, in his friends, and in the young people he inspired. His humour, spirit, and warmth lifted others – even in the most challenging moments.
We were honoured that John’s family – Lilly, Ian and Aiden – we able to join us and we offered them our deepest respect, love, and heartfelt recognition of John’s achievement.
