Clogwyn Activity Centre

The Clogwyn Centre is located in Bangor, North Wales, and is within easy reach of excellent outdoor spaces and areas of outstanding beauty provided by the Snowdonia National Park and Isle of Anglesey.

The Clogwyn Centre is ideally located for adventurous activities to suit all age ranges of Scouts or Guides and can accommodate up to a max of 36. It is close to the motorway network and a short distance from Bangor railway station. The stunning and exciting mountains of Snowdonia and spectacular beaches on Anglesey are within easy driving distance.

The building makes a great base to venture out in the national park and is a welcome and cosy reprieve to return to if the weather has been bad. There’s plenty to do nearby whether its Hillwalking, Climbing, Sailing, Canoeing, Mountain Biking, Windsurfing, Tobogganing, Beach Combing, Fossil Hunting, Photography.  You can even hitch a ride on Europe’s longest and fastest zip wires and jump around on a giant subterranean trampoline at Bounce Below!

The facilities such as the two large conference rooms and climbing wall also make it a perfect venue for both residential and daytime Adult Training. Whether as a base for mountain leader training, water permits on the straits, doing a climbing wall permit or a REC First Aid Course; Clogwyn is a great place for Adults in the movement to stay too.

Main Building


Contains a 6 burner gas cooker, grill, warming cupboard, fridge/freezer, double sink and instant boiling water heater.. All pots, pans and cooking utensils are provided along with all cutlery and crockery.

Dining Room

Seating for up to 36 so you can all enjoy your meals together with a small lounge area at the end of the room.


Washrooms: Gents – 2 showers, 3 hand basins and 2 toilets.

Ladies – 1 shower, hand basin and toilet.

Upstairs Toilet – 1 toilet and hand basin.

Drying Room : Small room available adjacent to changing area


There are 4 dormitories in total in the Clogwyn Centre. Each one offers bunk style beds with mattress and pillow.

Snowdon – Sleeps 17 people.

Tyrfan – Sleeps 6 people.

Ogwyn – Sleeps 4 people.

Idwal – – Sleeps 2 people.

NO bedding is provided so sleeping bags required.

Penrhyn Wing

The adjacent building offers a small kitchen and further accommodation with two rooms sleeping 4 and 3 with their own toilet and shower. There is also a large lounge area and games/lecture room on this upper level.

Climbing Wall

The end of the building has a climbing wall which is available with the appropriate scout permits. The climbing wall is free for use by anyone renting the centre with the permission of the Centre Manager and on production of the appropriate Scout Permit or NGB Qualification. The climbing wall can also be rented separately for daytime or evening activities. Contact the Centre Manager for more information.

The ground floor is used for storage and not for general use but provides access on to the stone beach overlooking Hirael Bay and the Menia Straits.

Leave the A55 at junction 11 for Bangor, continue past the Cemetery on left and at top of the rise turn right for Penrhyn Dock. The centre is then immediately on the left before the bridge.

All fees for Clogwyn are inclusive of electricity and use of showers. A deposit of £50 is required to secure booking this is non-refundable. Provisional bookings are held for only two weeks prior to deposit and confirmation.
