As we approach the end of any year, it is usually a time that we take stock of what has happened over the last 12 months, reflect on what has been and what is yet to come – and what an intense and unusual year 2020 was!

We have had to deal with an unprecedented amount of change and uncertainty not just in Scouts but our personal lives as well. Some of us may have lost jobs, friends or even family members to this horrible virus. Despite all this, what has remained consistent, is the unwavering dedication of our volunteers who have continued to deliver to young people skills for life or support us in whatever way they can.

There’s a lot to be positive about in 2020, we’ve become experts in Zoom, Teams and writing risk assessments. We’ve hiked to the moon, clapped for carers, had a virtual garden party, cared for care homes, camped at home multiple times, took part in an online remembrance and met some exotic animals at really wild live. Prior to March, we have had the Mersey Weaver Beaver Challenge, Cheshire Hike Practices, Scuba diving experiences, Cub Craft Competition, Scout Quiz, run an OSM Skills day, Beaver Panto and run lot’s of shooting sessions!

Looking towards the future, I truly believe that Scouts is needed more than it ever has been and that we will be in the fore front of rebuilding our communities and supporting young people to make up for missed opportunities to develop and grow in the months and years to come.

We want to thank all our volunteers for their contribution this year, everyone in Mersey Weaver has been amazing. I am pleased therefore to be able to recognise an astonishing 35 adult volunteers with some very prestigious awards (please see the list below). We have asked all award recipients how they would like them presented and we hope to do so at an awards in June 2021, COVID-19 permitting.

In the meantime, we know there are more people in Mersey Weaver who continue to modestly go about their business doing great things for young people and Scouting locally who may have been overlooked. Please remember, we need your help to find them! So if you know of someone who might be eligible for an award or some recognition please let us know.
